Dankworth and Harvey Awards Concert

ROYAL BIRMINGHAM CONSERVATOIRE JAZZ ORCHESTRA presents a concert featuring THE DANKWORTH AND EDDIE HARVEY AWARDS
The RBC is delighted to be the host of this year’s Dankworth and Eddie Harvey Awards. The awards are administered and funded by The Musicians’ Company with the support of The Wavendon Foundation and friends and family of Eddie Harvey.

Sir John Dankworth was a liveryman of The Musicians’ Company and his wife, Cleo Laine, is an Honorary Freeman. Their children, Alec and Jacqui, and Alec’s daughter, Emily, have been staunch supporters of the Awards since their establishment by Art Mead in 2007 and have often attended the prize-winners’ concert to present the prizes. There are two Dankworth Composition Awards – one for big band and one for small ensemble. The Awards are offered to composers under the age of 29.

The Eddie Harvey Jazz Arranger’s Award was instituted in memory of the outstanding jazz performer, arranger and educationalist and The Musicians’ Company assumed responsibility for the competition in 2017. The competition is open to arrangers of any age.

The RBC Jazz Orchestra will perform the three winning works after the presentation of the Awards during the concert. Tickets are on sale on Eventbrite using the link above.

There are trains to London after the concert from Birmingham New Street. For anyone driving, there is a car park next to the Conservatoire (Millennium Point Car Park: Cardigan Street, Birmingham B4 7AP).
