Biography

Ryan Linham graduated in 2014 with First Class Honours as a Foundation Scholar at the Royal College of Music. He was appointed the trumpet position in the New European Ensemble (Den Haag) that year, and has begun to forge a successful freelance career in the UK, playing with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, English National Opera and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. He has also held trials for the Principal Trumpet position in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra. In-keeping with his position in the NEuE, Ryan has performed with new music ensembles such as London Sinfonietta and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.

Ryan is an active educator and composer/arranger, and the manager of the Symphonic Brass Ensemble Kensington Brass. Highly passionate about Brass chamber music, Ryan has been a member of many successful ensembles, and is also currently the resident arranger for 3 groups and a residential course The Brass Academy. Some of his music is available through Warwick Music Publishers. He regularly plays with renowned London-based Onyx Brass Quintet, and has also appeared with Superbrass. Ryan is currently teaching Trumpet at Aldro Boy’s Preparatory School and Charterhouse School in Surrey.

As a soloist, Ryan won the RCM Brass Solo Brodie Prize and Trumpet Prize in both 2013 and 2014, and won the overall College concerto competition in 2012, performing the Peter Maxwell-Davies Concerto with the College New Perspectives Symphony Orchestra. More recently he has reached the Wind/Brass final of the Royal Overseas League competition, performed Brandenburg Concerto No 2 and Copland’s Quiet City with the Roman River Festival Orchestra, and performed as a featured soloist on a new commission by Judith Weir for the Hampton Court Palace 500th year, Praise Him With Trumpets. At RCM graduation, he was awarded the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal for outstanding achievement and services to the RCM, after which Ryan was made a Yeoman of the Company, being invited to perform both solo and outreach programmes for them.
